Corneal Transplant

The cornea is the clear front window of the eye. If the cornea is damaged it may become swollen or scarred and may have to be replaced (transplanted). Dr. Gulani performs corneal transplant as an individual surgery or in combination while performing extensive anterior segment reconstruction.

He has designed instruments and surgical techniques in this field and teaches concepts internationally.

Artificial Corneal Transplant

For patients who have undergone unsuccessful corneal transplants or unsuitable candidates for human transplant and have little or no sight, surgeons are now offering hope in the form of an artificial cornea.

Dr. Gulani is among the first few eye surgeons in the world and the first in the entire state of Florida selected to perform this futuristic eye surgery. He has designed new instrumentation and taught his surgical technique at national meetings in an effort to educate fellow eye surgeons to perform this promising surgery throughout the world. He has been extensively interviewed in medical and news media for this landmark surgery.

Lamellar Corneal Transplant

In cases where the damaged cornea is partially involved, Dr. Gulani performs special types of partial thickness corneal transplants; customized to that location, depth and extent of the involved pathology. He uses his specially designed instruments, surgical techniques and suturing options in this delicate surgery towards best-fit outcomes. He teaches these techniques and is cited in medical literature and news media for the same.

KeyHole Transplant

Dr. Gulani performs the revolutionary posterior transplant in patients with Fuchs Dystrophy (A condition of the eye which leads to cloudy cornea and poor vision due to damaged cells at the back surface of the cornea). Dr. Gulani calls this “KeyHole Transplant” appropriately because the entire surgery of transplant is performed through a very small incision.
